As part of his five-day state visit to India, Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, a towering figure in India’s independence movement.

On Tuesday, the President and First Lady visited Raj Ghat in New Delhi, where they laid a wreath at the memorial site dedicated to Gandhi.

Born in 1869, Gandhi led India’s struggle for independence through a campaign of nonviolent resistance. His philosophy of peaceful protest became a global symbol of civil rights and freedom movements. He was tragically assassinated on January 30, 1948, just months after India secured independence from British colonial rule.

Gandhi’s legacy continues to inspire generations around the world, standing as a lasting testament to the power of peaceful resistance.
