The Cotabato City government is currently deliberating a proposal to turn over the management of the Cotabato City Integrated Public Transport Terminal to a private company.
According to the City Planning and Development Coordinator, the terminal will remain under the ownership of the city government. However, its daily operations and maintenance may be entrusted to a private entity through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.
Officials explained that under this setup, the government could reduce costs while improving the quality of services at the terminal. Businesses wishing to operate within the terminal will still be required to register with the city government.
City Councilor Atty. Anwar Malang emphasized the need to finalize all details before the plan is opened to the public. He noted that a clear system must be established to prevent inconvenience for passengers and drivers.
Although the new terminal is located far from the city center, officials believe it will help ease heavy traffic in the downtown area. The project also aims to spur development in other parts of the city.
Further meetings will be held to decide whether the city will pursue the PPP model or retain direct management of the terminal.
